Installing Ubuntu 12.10 on the HP Envy 6/6T Test 05 November 2012 As with my previous post on installing Ubuntu 12.04, the HP Envy 6 is not supported by Ubuntu 12.10 out of the box. So, my sweet wife decided on a beast of a laptop for the New Year (even though I tried to get her to buy the Dell, she resisted) and settled on a HP Envy laptop. She agreed to test drive Windows 10 but at the end of the day, she's ready to make the leap, having seen me test drive Linux Mint for the past couple of years and love it. Please note I'm not here to complain about Win 10 - I'm not a Windows hater, just a Linux Lover. I'm also not worried about the actual install of Linux Mint (18 / Cinnamon) but rather prepping the laptop to test drive a Live DVD or USB and make sure it will play nice. Quick look at the specs: HP Envy 17-ae1xx Bios: F.15- Running Win 10 Home / 64 bit i7-855ou and a ridiculous amount of DDR4 I've gotten into the BIOS but wasn't sure exactly what needed to be Enabled and/or Disabled to make the testing (and hopefully, full install) go easily. And yes, I've got everything backed up (and working/tested back ups of my back ups) and also plan to create a System Image of Win10 in the event that it all goes sideways and I need to simply reinstall. Created a System Image of my Win 10 setup (as well as a System Repair Disc) then created a USB with Linux Mint on it. Had to tweak my BIOS settings a few times (forgot to also change the boot order for UEFI) but once that was completed, * poof* booted up and I'm looking at the Mint desktop. However.can't seem to get to the Internet. It sees my wifi and the signal is strong. Plugged in my password but when I launch the browser, no Internet. Am going to do some googling but also wanted to post it here, in case anyone else has had this problem.

I enter my password and then tried selecting 'store this password for this user' and also 'store password for all users' but once I select 'Connect' the window goes away for a moment and then *poof* pops back up. I think that's a question best answered by the Linux gurus. They will give you the correct terminal commands regarding your Wifi. It would be interested to see what the terminal command below gives you. ![]() Rfkill -list •. Which Version of Mint are you booting up? I've had many problems with Mint 18 Series Networking, but it may help to use the newest available to resolve this. You could also boot an older version just to see if it works. The 17.xx Series is pretty darn good and boots on almost anything if you choose the right one. Install snow leopard from usb. I always use 17.1 just in case there are graphics that are not compatible with the newer Versions, like.2 and.3. I'll bet Wifi works with 17.1-2 or 3 You could post the outcome of this command, that may help others here when they get time.
