I was using Notepad++ earlier, and learnt some HTML basic stuff, but if I can get a basic website done in a matter of days, I would not go through the hassle of learning HTML. Sharepoint is a document workspace solution from microsoft that will allow you to build a SPECIFIC type of 'website' that follows it's own structure. You don't actually create any HTML or anything within sharepoint, you just set up a site based on templates and plugins that are available.
